May Flowers

STAR testing is finished and there are only a few weeks of school left.  This year has gone by fast due to all of the great things we have done this year and things we still are working on.  The coolest thing that is in our future is a project based lesson that will take us through the end of the year.  Our focus will be on the Olympics.  We will discuss the history of the Olympics and we will think about how math, science, technology, art, language, social studies, etc are involved with the modern day games.  We will discuss this subject as a group and break up into groups and develop ideas of how the Olympics can be a part of a fun and educational experience.

We will have our end of the year party at Sinshiemer Pool and Park on June 13.  We are looking forward to a few hours of swimming and go to the park for our party.  We are going to have a great time.   All Teach 4th and 5th graders will be a part of this traditional outing.

Teach School has lots of great things happening in March.  Parent conferences, Applebee’s, Math Day, March-A-Thon, and Teach Open House.  Applebee’s will be a great breakfast of all you can eat pancakes and sausage.   Teach staff will be serving all of the families that are able to come.  This will be a fun event and it’s a fund raiser that you can walk away from with a full stomach.  Breakfast will be served March 24 from 8:oo am to 10:00 am and it is $7.00 a ticket.   Teach Open House is on March 21. Starting at 6:00 pm is the Open House for prospective parents and then at 6:30 pm is the general meeting.  The Open House for current Teach students goes from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  There will be student works on display in each classroom and students should be able to give their parents the grand tour.  Please come and enjoy a night of fun at our Open House.  The March-A-Thon will be March 23 this year and it’s a great fund raiser for both schools.  We hope you can come out and encourage your runner.  We will also have a Math Festival on March 22 for both schools and it should be full of cool things to do and to learn.

Electives Are Great!!!!!

The students are having a great time in this year’s elective courses.  We have more elective classes this year than ever before.  With the continuing growth of Teach also comes the continued involvment of our wonderful parents.  The seventeen parents that are teaching our electives are doing a fantastic job and the students are enjoying the many new opportunities to learn something new.  The electives are something unique to Teach and we are very lucky to have such wonderful support from our parents.

On Our Way Home!

We departed Astrocamp at 12:55 PM.  We’ll be making a dinner stop at the Wendy’s just north of Thousand Oaks, and then head straight for home.  Estimated time of arrival is 8:00 PM, and we’ll activate the phone tree as soon as we approach Santa Maria and we have a better idea of our exact arrival time.  Plan to be there at 8:00 PM!

The fried chicken was outstanding with the baked potatoes, corn on the cob, salad bar, fruit bar…all we could eat!  Dessert was our choice of rainbow sherbet or chocolate ice cream.  The kids were loving every bit of it.  Some of the kids built rockets today and the rest will build them in the morning, and then we’ll all launch them.  Kids went on the zip line today, rock climbing (climbed the cliffs of mars), built lunar landing modules (microgravity), some did lights & lasers, some did cosmic lander, some built rockets, and we all had free swim tonight.  The weather has been absolutely perfect.  The chaperones are still smiling and having the experience of their life!

We plan to depart around 1:00 PM.  We plan to eat lunch at camp right before departure, and then leave.  We’ll stop at Wendy’s for dinner, and plan to be back at school at around 8 PM.  We’ll start the phone tree when we get close to Santa Maria and we’re more sure of our arrival time.
