Welcome to Teach Elementary School!

It is my great honor to join the Teach Elementary community as your new principal. Whether your family is returning or joining us for the first time, I am excited to welcome you to a new school year filled with learning, growth, and connection.

Teach Elementary is a special place where students develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to thrive in an ever-changing world. Through engaging, rigorous, and student-centered learning experiences, we strive to inspire curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. Just as importantly, we foster a close-knit school community where every student is known, valued, and celebrated for their unique strengths and perspectives.

At Teach, our daily work is guided by our SPaRRK expectations: Safety, Productivity, Respect, Responsibility, and Kindness. These shared values help create a positive and inclusive environment where students feel safe to learn, take risks, build relationships, and grow into compassionate and responsible citizens. We are proud of our Teach Tigers and the character they demonstrate each day.

Strong partnerships between home and school are essential to student success. Families are a vital part of our community, and I encourage you to stay connected through school events, volunteer opportunities, parent-teacher conferences, and ongoing communication with our staff. Together, we can create meaningful learning experiences and ensure every child reaches their fullest potential.

As I begin this new chapter at Teach, I look forward to building relationships with students, staff, and families and learning more about the traditions and values that make this school so special. I am honored to serve this community and excited to work alongside you to continue supporting student achievement, belonging, and well-being.

Mrs. Kirstin May is a lifelong San Luis Obispo resident and graduate of San Luis Coastal schools, Cuesta College, and Cal Poly. She has served students and families in San Luis Coastal Unified School District for over 20 years as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, English learner specialist, MTSS teacher, and elementary principal. Mrs. May is passionate about building strong school communities where every student feels known, connected, supported, and inspired to learn.
